A BEER.....IN BASILDON

I left you yesterday in West Horndon. Following the railway line towards the coast, we come to one of my least favourite new towns, Basildon. In its favour, the planners have ensured that the railway station, the bus terminus and the town centre are all in the same place - a lesson that Milton Keynes should have learned.

The railway station opened in 1974, previously Basildon-bound passengers had to alight in Laindon or Pitsea. Here is the new facility in 1983 (Photo by Richard Huggins).

Richard Huggins also photographed 310 088 at Basildon, 12th February 1994.

At last, that Wetherspoons I promised you, the Moon on the Square.

Next, we'll look at some Basildon buses, then move ever onwards, but that will have to wait for the next posting.
