Now it's time to head across country, to Cuffley, on the GN line to Hertford North. We're here for the buses and beer, though. The normal bus service through Cuffley used to be operated by County Bus & Coach, the successor of London Country.
In October 1992, a bus rally was held in Cuffley and Routemasters were employed on a special service.
The rally itself was held in the station car park and here are some of the exhibits.
Cuffley used to have two pubs. Sadly, the former Charrington house, the Cuffley Hotel, is now defunct.
McMullen's have long owned the Plough and it still sells their beer today.
Next comes a free house, the Two Brewers at Northaw.
Not far away, another village pub, at Newgate Street, the fine Coach & Horses.
And so to Potters Bar. The old part of the town is up on a hill and it's here that we see a London Country North East Leyland Olympian rather stating the obvious.
London Transport's bus garage, part of the "red" fleet, though outside Greater London, was in the old part of Potters Bar and here we see AEC Merlin MB633, in 1974.
Now we head down to the other part of Potters Bar, by the railway station, where we find a decent pub, the Old Manor.
The next post will feature more of Potters Bar, before moving on.
