From the outskirts of Blackburn we head into the countryside, calling first at Langho station on the L&YR route to Clitheroe.
Now, across country to Longridge. It used to have plenty of industry.
Another postcard view - Longridge parish church.
The town's railway station was at the end of a branch from Preston.
Beside the station was the Towneley Arms. The station has gone - the pub's still there.
To get to Longridge today, a bus is required. Mercer's, based in the town provided some of the services.
We soon come to a posh boarding school at Stonyhurst.
North now, into what was once Yorkshire, to Slaidburn (Lancashire).
There's a nice church.
Here's the view from the River Hodder bridge at Slaidburn.

Another village that has now left Yorkshire is Bolton-by-Bowland, with its notable church.
In the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, is Rimington, which had a station on the Clitheroe to Hellifield line.
To the north of Clitheroe is the village of Waddington, with the Waddington Arms.
On the way into Clitheroe, we pay a quick visit to Bowland Brewery.
Clitheroe's station, in the early days.
The station closed, but has since reopened and enjoys an hourly service.
The station buildings still survive.
Transdev is the main bus operator.
Other bus companies over the years have included Tyrer Bus, Lakeland Coaches, Holmeswood Coaches and Town Midi Coaches.
