AROUND KIRKCALDY

In the last post I left you in the Wetherspoons in Glenrothes. It's right outside the bus station, which is regularly visited by the buses of Stagecoach and Moffat & Williamson.

A couple of miles to the west is the village of Leslie, where the Burns Tavern can be found.

The area was once known for coal mining. Here's Balgonie Colliery, Thornton.

There was an important loco shed at Thornton Junction, where LNER Senitinel railcar 'Banks of Don' was based.

Between Thornton and Kirkcaldy is a place called Easter Balbeggie, where Muir's scrapyard is located. Several industrial locos were once to be found here.

Here's a couple of preserved lorries at Muir's yard in 2003.

LNER A3 2797 'Cicero' approaches Kirkcaldy in 1936.

Kirkcaldy station once had an extensive goods yard.

06005 was to be found there in 1978.

Kirkcaldy once had its own trams. Car 9 is seen on Whites Causeway.

Alexander (Fife) used to terminate their buses by the sea front in Kirkcaldy. Here's Ailsa FRA18 in 1976.

By 1981, a new bus station had been built.

Fife Scottish was later purchased by Stagecoach.

Moffat & Williamson could also be found in Kirkcaldy.

Fife Scottish had a large depot in Kirkcaldy.

Stagecoach later took over the facilities.

The Feuars Arms is a decent boozer, sadly without real ale these days.

The Harbour Bar is an excellent pub and may restart brewing in the future.

Kirkcaldy also has a Wetherspoons, the Robert Nairn.

We now move on the Kinghorn and our first stop is the Auld Hoose, not be be missed.

The Ship Tavern is now an eatery and no longer serves cask beer.

We conclude at the Crown Tavern, in the heart of the community.

I'll leave you there for now. More of the Kingdom of Fife in the next post. Here's the route so far.
