Let's spend a day just looking at the Yorkshire town of Northallerton, starting at the railway, where we find LNER 2-4-2T no. 40 "on shed".
Ex NER "Atlantic" 2164 speeds through the station.
The signal box was still in use after electrification - 1990.
A Grand Central HST passes through the station in 2008.
Tens years later and a Freightliner 66 speeds past as a TransPennine Express 185 calls.
It's market day in the High Street (Creative Commons License).
At the north end of the town centre, the parish church.
Dales & District seems to be the main bus operator these days.
Shaun's buses have now vanished (Jim Sambrooks).
The Wensleydale Railway used to run its own buses!
At the north end of the town is Low Gates level crossing, on the branch to Middlesbrough.
The Tithe Bar was well known for its real ales. It's now renamed Origin and is more foody, but still has some decent beer.
Also at this end of town, the Standard.
The Potting Shed opened in 2017 and serves some good ales.
A place to stay, eat and drink - the Golden Lion.
The Tickle Toby is named after a local highwayman.
We'll finish our Northallerton tour in a great micropub, the Stumble Inn.
Next time, a wander around the Dales.
