A BEERLESS SECTION OF THE TOUR

Just south of Eastoft is the small town of Crowle. Here, we're looking towards the Market Place.

This is the Market Place.

High Street, looking south.

College Street.

Cross Street, with and without snow.

Carr's local bus sits in the Market Place.

Crowle had a station on the Axholme Joint Railway.

The Sentinel railcar calls.

We head west(ish) over the fields to an isolated spot on the Great Central Doncaster to Cleethorpes line - Medge Hall station (My collection - photographer unknown).

The signal box was still there in 1980 and survives today.

A horse-worked peat railway went out into the fields from Medge Hall works  (My collection - photographer unknown).

Another isolated station on the line was a mile or so to the east - Godnow Bridge.

The signal box remained in situ to control the level crossing, but was later replaced.

A DMU passes, circa 1978.

To the east is Ealand. A site there was used as an overspill area for the Sandtoft Gathering in July 1995. Various buses were used on the shuttle service between the two locations.

A display of preserved road vehicles included this Leyland Comet lorry.

Crowle GCR station was actually in Ealand, beside the Stainforth & Keadby Canal. A keel approaches from the west.

The station in GCR days. The siding on our left served various industries, including a brick works and a brewery.

Crowle Wharf, with railway sidings and the signal box.

Another keel passes by.

Crowle station in LNER days.

Just to the east, the Axholme Joint line crossed the GCR and the canal, with a swing bridge over the latter. Here's a couple of pics of the construction.

The contractors encountered a little problem here!

Hopping across country now, for a pint, but we're disappointed as the Dolphin Inn at Althorpe village is now closed.

So, we'll just have to wait until the next post to find some beer. Meanwhile, here's the route.
