THE VIADUCT & BELOW

Trains approaching Stockport from the Manchester direction cross the Mersey valley as they arrrive in the town, using this impressive viaduct to do so.

Let's go below to look at the bus station to see what's there. Around 1977, a couple of vehicles of Greater Manchester PTE.

Similat vehicles with the PTE and Crosville, both ex North Western RCC.

Prior to privatisation, Crosville used this short lived colour scheme.

Trent Motor Traction ran into Stockport bus station.

Greater Manchester South took over PTE operations here.

PMT (a.k.a. Pennine) had a small share of operations in the 1990s.

Post deregulation independents included Walls and Bullocks.

More recent operators are Stagecoach, Arriva and Manchester Community Transport (Hope you like Optare Solos!).

Handy for the bus station is the Pineapple. It's recently re-opened, but is now keg only.

Never mind, there's always the Crown, with an unusual view from the Gents' toilet!

Up the steps to the railway station, just in time to see a North Staffordshire Railway service arriving off the viaduct.

In the 1970s, 25 215 passes through "light engine".

A DMU forms the infrequent local service to Stalybridge.

86 214 departs for Manchester.

There was still proper signalling in 1989. Here's No. 2 box.

Diesel and electric local services around that time.

Virgin Trains were in charge of InterCity services.

During 2003, Midland Mainline ran a service to St Pancras, avoiding engineering work on the WCML.

A new platform 0 is about to open in 2003.

Now it's 2005, and a Merseyrail liveried "Pacer" makes a call.

Here's a more modern selection of trains serving Stockport.

Outside the station is a bus ready to take us into the town centre (and it's free).

That's where I'll leave it for now. Next time, a lot of pubs and other delights of Stockport.
