ALONG THE GE MAIN LINE

Leaving Billericay behind, we head across the fields, in a vaguely northern direction, to the large village of Ingatestone, on the GER main line from London to Norwich. Here's the station yard in Great Eastern days.

Two days after Christmas in 1998, 86 252 is seen at Ingatestone, photographed by Richard Huggins.

Two more photos from Richard, with Eastern National 1130 at Ingatestone on a rail replacement duty, while Lynx 1429 is on a service in the Market Place.

There's a Gray's pub in Ingatestone, the Star, so we might as well spend the evening there.

Heading towards the capital we next come to Shenfield & Hutton station, the junction for the Southend Victoria line. These photos are from Victorian times.

Now for three 1971 photos. In the first one, unit 070 is forming the Sunday shuttle to Chelmsford. Then we have a Clacton express, followed by a 47 on an intercity workng.

Now for a few photos dated 25th November 2011.

Luckily, close to Shenfield & Hutton station is a pub, the Green Dragon, first viewed on an old postcard.

And here are a couple of more modern pictures. It used to be owned by Ind Coope.

Where next? You'll have to wait for the next posting.
