DOWN BRENTWOOD BANK

Down (eastbound) trains are faced with a steep climb up to Shenfield, but we're going in the opposite direction, as we descend Brentwood Bank. This is in GER times, but it's now four-track and electrified, of course.

Brentwood station, when it was double track only, GER.

Here's LNER 8510 on The Eastern Belle passing Brentwood.

Now it's April 1961. the overhead has appeared and so has the quadruple track layout. Photo by Ben Brooksbank.

Outside the station, a reminder that East Midland (!) ran some services in the area, November 1986 (Richard Huggins).

Now we must head up Kings Road, to the High Street.

The High Street is the best spot for bus photography, though I doubt you'll find any vehicles from the City Coach Company.

Arriva serve the town.

The main operator, however, is Firstbus, with vehicles in "Barbie" colours and, given our proximity to London, all-over red.

I think NIBS operate only contract/schools duties in Brentwood.

Time for a couple of beers. First comes a free house, the Risng Sun.

My favourite, though, is the Victoria, a Grays house.

We're getting close to London, are we going there? Find out next time.
