ARRIVAL IN SARFEND

As we head towards Southend, we have to pass through Westciffe-on-Sea, where a bus firm of the same name had its depot. Here are two pictures from my collection, by unknown photographers. The company was later absorbed by Eastern National.

Two pubs to do in Westcliffe, the Lamb & Lion, then the Cricketers, the latter being a Gray's house (the brewery was in Chelmsford).

Suitably refreshed, we take a Southend Transport Routemaster through Chalkwell and along London Road towards Southend town.

An Eastern National open-top Bristol FLF comes along London Road.

On London Road itself is a great pub, The Olde Trout Tavern, so let's rest awhile in there.

After several pints, time travels backwards and we see an ancient Southend Corporation trolleybus outside Southend Victoria station.

Now we'll take a peek or two inside
Southend Victoria station, built by the Great Eastern Railway and today served by trains from London Liverpool Street.

That's it for now, in the next post we'll take a look further into Southend-on-Sea.
