You can probably guess where we are heading next and you'd by right if you said Sibson-cum-Stibblington. You will probably know this area as Wansford Station, though Wansford itself is a good distance away. The River Nene flows gently by.
An old view of the bridge at Sibson-cum-Stibblington. It once carried the Great North Road (A1).
Today, Wansford station is the HQ of the Nene Valley Railway. This is once where the A1 crossed the line.
The nice ex LNWR signal box is still in use.
The NVR's loco shed is at Wansford.
Foreign locos are a feature of the Nene Valley Railway; here are a couple.
Now for a contrast in visiting locomotives.
We now leave Cambridgeshire and head briefly into Northamptonshire, to King's Cliffe, where the Cross Keys can provide liquid refreshment.
Due north next to the former station at Ketton & Collyweston, still home to the famous Midland Railway lower-quadrnt signal. (Photo in my collection, photographer unknown)
The next station to the east is Stamford, still open of course. Here are a few services over the years. We are now in Lincolnshire.
