It would be logical to head straight into Peterborough, but this blog isn't logical! Therefore, we're going to skirt through the outskirts, starting at Orton Longueville. Here we find the Botolph Arms, a Samuel Smith's tied house.
There's another pub in Orton Longueville, though it's very foody and full of families. It's called the Granary.
The Granary is well placed for Ferry Meadows Park, adjoining the River Nene and its lock.
Close by is Ferry Meadows station on the Nene Valley Railway. It's Diesel Day! - 6th October 2007.
Just around the corner is a miniature railway, operating in Ferry Meadows Country Park. The loco has derailed on the turntable!
It was soon back on the track.
What is now the Nene Valley Railway, when it was owned by the LMS, had a station serving Castor, though there's little trace today.
To get to Castor these days, a bus is required, though Kime's no longer exist.
We visit two pubs in Castor. First, the Royal Oak, once an Ind Coope house.
Then, there's the Prince of Wales' Feathers, where beer brewed a few yards away is sold. Seems a good place to linger.....
Good night!
