ARDROSSAN AND SALTCOATS

We start this page beside the ferry terminal at Ardrossan Harbour, where we're lucky enough to see 08443 doing a spot of shunting.

Movements around the harbour were in the hands of this signal box.

Some trains terminate at the single platformed Ardrossan Town station.

The Caledonian Railway also had a terminus in Ardrossan.

LMS 7122 at the ex G&SWR shed.

Western SMT had a depot in Ardrossan, right by the sea.

Clyde Coast was also based in Ardrossan, with a variety of buses.

AA Buses was another cooperative serving Ardrossan.

The major operator was A1, the Ayshire cooperative. There was a depot near the harbour.

An A1 bus is seen in the town centre.

A1 also had a depot on the edge of town.

Onwards to Saltcoats, a seaside town, though we won't see much of the sea.

Saltcoats' main bus operator was, again, A1 Services.

Other bus companies included AA Buses, Clyde Coast  and Shuttle Buses.

We must not forget that Western SMT also had a big presence in Saltcoats.

Saltcoats station, on the Kilwinning to Largs/Ardrossan branch, was served by a frequent DMU service.

Today, the line is electrified.

At last, time for a beer of two, at the famous Windy Ha in Saltcoats town centre.

The next post will see us deep into Ayrshire.
