THE START OF A MANX JOURNEY

We've arrived at Ronaldsway Airport in the Isle of Man. Unsurprisingly, the main operator here is Manx Airlines.

Here's the main terminal and there's a bus waiting to waft us away. (Photos by Richard Huggins)

Back in 1975, I found this old Douglas Corporation 'toastrack' rotting away in a field near Ronaldsway.

Not far away is Ballasalla, a station and passing loop on the surviving section of the Isle of Man steam railway.

The train now takes us to Castletown.

There's a castle in the middle of Castletown. It's called Castle Rushen. Here's an old postcard view.

Now it's 1993  (Photo by Richard Huggins).

Castle Rushen overlooks the harbour.

The Market Cross, with the castle behind.

Castletown Brewery, sadly, no longer brews. Here it is, when still going, in 1974.

So you won't find Castletown beers in the Sidings pub, by the station. However, you will, no doubt, get a pint of Bushy's. I hope they don't mind, but I've pinched this photo from their website, so here's a link. I do recommend Bushy's beers.

The next post will see us exploring more of the island. You can follow the route on this map.
