WORKINGTON, THEN TURN RIGHT

We've now left Whitehaven behind and are heading up the coast to Harrington.

Just inland is Lillyhall, where there was a factory making Leyland National buses. They also made the class 141 railcars for British Rail.

Soon we come to Workington, where the late Les Flint took this photo of a Derby Lightweight DMU.

There was a fine signal box at Workington station in 1994.

Workington loco shed was alongside the station. Two views here in LMS days.

Cumberland Motor Services ran the buses in Workington. Here's the depot-cum-bus station circa 1930.

Two vehicles at Workington depot around 1978.

A pair of modern coaches in 1983.

By 1990, Stagecoach had taken over, though this Dodge S56 is still in the older livery.

We are not visiting any pubs in Workington, but here's the old Workington Brewery, taken over and closed by Matthew Brown.

Inland to Stainburn, where this
Cumberland Motor Services Leyland Leopard, ex Ribble, was photographed.

Moving onwards, we come to Great Broughton and the Brewery House, a Jennngs' house.

There's also the Punch Bowl - more Jennings.

We get closer to Cockermouth, but take a little diversion to see the long closed station at Brigham. (Photo by Ben Brooksbank).

On the same line was Cockermouth station, now gone, of course.

Cockermouth is where the Rivers Cocker and Derwent meet.

One is obliged to travel to Cockermouth by bus these days.

By the rivers in Cockermouth is Jennings' Brewery.

We must sample some more Jennings beer, but not at the Grey Goat, as it closed in 2012 and the building is now an Air B&B.

The Trout Hotel is a good place to finish off today's visit and, on my last visit, had decent beer.

The next post will see us back on the coast then onwards to the Lakes. Follow the map here.
