A BIG MOUTH

It's not far to our next stop, West Monkseaton. This is Seatonville Road shopping parade.

The Beacon in West Monkseaton is known for keeping good beer.

Into Monkseaton itself, with Front Street looking west showing the huge Monkseaton Brewery and the first Monkseaton Arms, c1900.

A decent pub in Monkseaton is the Black Horse.

Monkseaton station, on the T&W Metro, but once the junction for Blyth, etc.

On the station, recently opened, the Left Luggage Room, a micropub.

Back to the coast, at Cullercoats.

An old view of Cullercoats, Front Street.

Cullercoats station was once subject to flooding.

John Street, Cullercoats, with a Tynemouth tram.

So, we move on to Tynemouth. We start at the NER station, in pre-grouping days.

Around 1910, a new EMU of the NER awaits departure.

By 1986, in Metro days, much of Tynemouth station looked rather sorry for itself.

However, the station has recently been given a deserved makeover, which includes the addition of the Platform 2 Craft Ale Bar.

Tynemouth's most famous building, the Priory, overlooking the river mouth itself (Creative Commons License).

Of course, there's a Front Street in Tynemouth.

Here's a collection of old postcard views of the river, the pier, and the lighthouse.

The 'City of Paris' passes Tynemouth and is about to enter the North Sea.

The Pier Hotel in Tynemouth has long vanished.

Fitzpatrick's, on Front Street, is still in business, but is now called 'Pleased to Meet You'.

Northumbria 416 is seen on Front Street.

From here, we journey inland for a short distance to a convenient spot on Tynemouth's outskirts to photograph passing buses and Meto units.

Just across the road is the superb Tynemouth Lodge Hotel, a great place to conclude this post.

Next time - North Shields and beyond.
