In the last post I left you by the Tyne at Bill Quay. In this one, we'll end up in South Shields, but first we must visit Hebburn and Reyrolle & Co's works, where we find EE 512-1920 4wbe.

Jarrow is served by the Tyne & Wear Metro.
Back in 1984 there was still freight traffic on the National Rail network at Jarrow, including a resident shunter.
Northern General's Jarrow depot was opposite the Metro station.
A five minute walk away, according to Whatpub, is the Ben Lomond, seen here as a Wetherspoons, but now owned by Greene King.
Back in 2004, the Robin Hood, a mile or so out of town, was home to Jarrow Brewery. It's now a restaurant and has no real ale.
We pass through Simonside to reach South Shields and, in the Bede Industrial Estate, we find Northern 3545 (Richard Huggins).

The NCB's Harton electric railway system brought coal to the staithes. Loco no. 14 is seen in 1973.
In the main yard, locos 9 and 2 rest for a while in 1977.
In the line's latter days, the NCB locos received a blue livery, as applied to no.2 about to enter the tunnel down to the staithes in 1987. The line closed shortly afterwards.
In 1981, a DMU arrives in adverse weather at South Shields, not long before the Metro took over the line.

There's another railway in South Shields, running around a lake in the park.
In 1977, a vintage vehicle rally was held in South Shields and was attended by this Maidstone & District Leyland.
Later rallies have seen a good variety of road transport.
