So, we're off to Halifax and there it is, down in the valley, as seen from Beacon Hill.
The Post Office and St Georges Square, with a tram passing.
The Markets and Arcades.
Single deck tram 103 in Union Street.
Commercial Street, with another tram.
A bit of a tram prang in 1906.
Halifax later operated buses.
West Yorkshire PTE took over Halifax's buses.
A training bus, still in the old colours.
West Yorkshire PTE soon upgraded its fleet.
The PTE buses were later to receive Yorkshire Rider names.
Firstbus then took over. This is the new bus station.
Deregulation saw Yelloway operating in Halifax - still using the old bus station.
Ivy Coaches also served the town.
The Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee was a short-lived independent operator, using Routemasters and more conventional double-deckers.
TJ Walsh runs a few local routes with small buses.
Yorkshire Tiger's buses were also to be found in Halifax.
One of the town's tourist attractions is the Piece Hall and its huge courtyard (Creative Commons License).
A vintage vehicle rally has been held here.
Oh look! There's another bus rally.
A pair of Devon General buses are attending.
This Crosville Bristol L type is heading for the rally site.
Down by the railway station, I once found this old AEC, along with some other semi-derelict stuff.
Here is Halifax railway station, with Beacon Hill behind.
A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway steam railmotor is seen at Halifax.
The L&YR signal box survived into modern times to control the much reduced station.
A WYPTE liveried 155 calls in 1989.
Next to the station is the Eureka! Children's Museum with an old industrial diesel loco for the kids to play on.
Close to the station, a superb boozer, the Three Pigeons.
Between the station and the town centre, the Railway Hotel.
The Bowling Green, on the edge of the centre, has now shut.
The Pump Room has since been demolished.
It would seem that the Sportsman has also vanished.
Thankfully, the Tap & Spile, now renamed as the Royal Oak, is still open and has a good beer range.
Right, that's it for Halifax town centre. Next time, we'll visit the suburbs and pastures new.
