TO THE WORLD'S END

The ferry from Gravesend drops you at what was once Tilbury Riverside station, which closed in 1992. Therefore, to continue the journey, a bus must be taken.

However, it's worth a look around here as it's been an interesting place over the years. Here's the ferry arriving into Essex in 1976, when the service was run by British Rail.

If you're into ships, here are a couple of the bigger ones using the Thames.

Now for a look around the station before it closed. First, the carriage sidings.

Unit 305 518 awaits departure in 1985.

Enough of this transport stuff, where's the pub? A couple of hundred yards down the road and it's a former Charrington house called the World's End. A great place to rest awhile and watch the world and its shipping pass by. First a 1930 view, then one from June 2008.

Right, it's time to catch the bus to our next port of call, now get your map out to see where that might be.
