STARTING FROM MALTA

We've now left Wheathampstead behind and heading into the town of Harpenden. On the way in, there's a pub in the suburb of Batford and it's called the Malta.

Taking a slight detour, we find another pub in the outskirts of town, the Red Cow, which once brewed its own ales.

Now we're arriving into Harpenden proper, along Wheathampstead Road.

An old postcard of Church Green, Harpenden.

The main bus operator in the town is Arriva, with its 321 Luton to Watford service.

Other operators over the years have included Seamarks, Universitybus (Uno), Centrebus, In Motion, and Grant Palmer.

In addition, PPH from St Albans take children to school from Harpenden.

A different type of road transport now, a dray of Hook Norton Brewery, delivering to the Carpenters Arms.

The pub itself is a friendly place and I met Coco the dog in there.

The Inn on the Green, selling Greene King beers.

Next, the Old Cock Inn, a free house.

I've left one of the best until last, the Cross Keys, once a Whitbread house.

The next post will see us heading for a magic roundabout.
