BACK TO LANCASHIRE

I left you in Todmorden, so let's continue to look at this Pennine town, now fully in West Yorkshire, though part was once in Lancashire. The border ran under the town hall!. Here's a plan that I photographed on my last visit. Apologies to the artist that drew it, but it really does provide a lot of useful info.

Just a hint. Click on the photo, then right click on enlarged photo, pressing 'Open in New Tab', to really be able to zoom into it.

Here's a general view of the centre, with the town hall on the left.

The interior of the town hall is magnificent! (Creative Commons License photo from Wikipedia).

Todmorden is famed for its market.

Inside the covered market is the Market Tavern.

Another pub worth seeking out is the Golden Lion.

As Wetherspoons go, the White Hart isn't a bad one.....and it's handy for the station.

There's a great new micropub in town, simply called 'The Pub'.

Sadly, the Barearts Brewery bar now seems to have closed.

We now follow the main road and railway towards Burnley and soon arrive at Cornholme station in L&YR days, but long gone now.

Next along the line was
Portsmouth station, also now closed.

The railway is now tackling the fiercely graded Copy Pit incline. A Leeds bound DMU is doing just that.

We're now back in Lancashire and soon meet one of Burnley Corporation's single deck trams on Todmorden Road.

We'll take a wander around the Burnley area in the next post.
