THE OTHER END OF THE FORTH BRIDGES

The first stop today is only a short distance from Bo'ness. We've arrived at the pleasant town of Linlithgow. Here's the palace and the church.

Above the town and its railway station is the Union Canal, linking Edinburgh with the Falkirk Wheel. Here's the town basin.

Steam!

Midland Scottish had a depot in the town.

Here's Linlithgow station, on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow route.

A DMU calls in 1987.

Scotrail provides the services here in the 21st century.

The train now arriving at Platform Three......

Platform Three is a fine boozer on the approach to the station.

There's also the Four Marys, with a good range of beers.

Next stop, South Queensferry, with a view of the Forth Bridge under construction.

And here it is in 1996.

Looking the other way, the Forth Road Bridge.

On the banks of the Forth in South Queensferry is the Ferry Tap.

A Kelvin Scottish coach has brought tourists to look at the bridges.

High above South Queensferry and great views of the Firth of Forth and its bridges in 1974.

At the south end of the Forth Bridge is Dalmeny station. NBR No. 65 arrives with a southbound freight.

The station entrance at street level.

LNER 2-8-2 No. 2003 calls at Dalmeny.

In more modern times, a class 150 departs for Fife.

A few miles to the south is the village of Balerno, home of the Grey Horse.

Balerno once had a railway station. Little was left by 1962 (Ben Brooksbank).

Even further south was Leadburn and the Leadburn Inn, on the way to Peebles. Sadly, it's no longer a pub.

So, a quick "about turn" (see the map) and we arrive in the suburbs of Edinburgh, in the Murrayfield area. A short-lived independent, Edinburgh Transport, could be seen here.

An Eastern Scottish trainer bus was also photographed.

We conclude this post in Murrayfield, at the Hampton Hotel, with both beer and accommodation.

Next time, we start a good look around the capital.
