EDINBURGH'S NEW TOWN & BEYOND

Wetherspoons are known for opening early, so here's one of Edinburgh's, the Alexander Graham Bell.

There are plenty more pubs to do in and around the New Town. Next up is the Blue Blazer.

The Bellevue has since changed its name.

Next, we have the Barony Bar.

A well known Edinburgh pub is the Conan Doyle.

Now, the Cask & Barrel.

One New Town pub that must not be missed is the Oxford Bar.

Here's the Windsor Buffet.

Charlotte Square is in the heart of the New Town, seen in 1976.

Edinburgh's main bus station was always worth a visit. SMT was once the main operator (Les Flint).

SMT became Eastern Scottish.

Starks, from Dunbar, was a subsidiary of Eastern Scottish.

An ex SYPTE Ailsa enters the bus station in 1987.

Other Scottish Bus Group companies to be found here were (top to bottom) Fife, Baxters, Kelvin and Lowland.

Now for a quick look at Dean Bridge in 1976, before heading for more pubs!

In the Stocksbridge area is Clark's Bar.

Not far away is Smithie's Ale House.

Across, now, to Leith Walk and Robbie's Bar.

Just off Leith Walk was one of Lothian Buses' depots.

A small transport museum was nearby, holding an Edinburgh Corporation Guy saloon.

Down towards the Forth and Newhaven, home of the Starbank Inn. This map will show you the basic route.

In the next post we'll take a look at Leith and more Edinburgh suburbs.

Having finished with the Wakefield area, we head in a northeasterly direction to Wrenthorpe, where find the Malt Shovel. The pub is still ...
