GOING SHOPPING

 We were looking at the pubs of Grays (Essex) yesterday and here are two more. Both are south of the railway line that divides the town in two, indeed they are almost opposite each other.




As mentioned above, the railway splits the town in two and there used to be a level crossing, latterly reduced to pedestrian use only and controlled by this ex London, Tilbury & Soutnend Railway signal box.


A lot of freight uses the line. Here's a class 37 on an up oil train, circa 1971.

The station has three platforms, two are through lines, with a bay used by terminating trains. First a LT&SR steam train occupies it....

.....and it's later in use by a modern C2C unit.

So now

A FEW PINTS OF DARLEY'S

We now enter the county of South Yorkshire (once part of the West Riding)   and cross Hatfield Moors, a large peat bog. Until recently, this...
