TO THE LONG HIGH STREET

In the last post I left you at a pub that's now closed. Looking at their Facebook page, it seems that the same fate may have befallen our next pub, the Thorald Arms at Harmston. It used to be a proper boozer that brewed its own beer. Dixie Dean, with his van, is paying a visit in 2000.

Just to the north is RAF Waddington. My late father visited there in 1979 and here are three of his photos. First, an Avro Lancaster, followed by some preserved RAF planes. Then comes a North American Rockwell Bronco..

Waddington was once home to some of the 'V' Bombers and this Vulcan was on display in 2014 (photo by Rob Reedman with Creative Commons License).

Today, RAF Waddington is used by ZH101 Boeing E3A Sentry AWACS jets. One comes into land in 2020 (Photo by 'Kitmasterbloke' of flickr with Creative Commons License)

Also found in Waddington was this old 'Road Car' Bristol, looking sorry for itself in 1983.

Time now for that much needed pint. The Three Horseshoes at Waddington will provide it. Whatpub describes it as a "real community pub". I will not argue with that.

We now cut across country to North Hykeham, where the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society have their HQ and organise various rallies around the village. Here are a few attendees and exhibits.

North Hykeham is also home to Poacher's Brewery

Visitors to the brewery are normally greeted by these enthusiastic employees.

Nortth Hykeham is also served by the former Midland Railway.

However, it's simpler to take to the road towards Lincoln and, at the south end of the very long High Street, we see Lincoln's new electric trams on delivery.in 1905.

A few yards further north, heading into the city centre, we find the excellent Golden Eagle, with Castle Rock beers (and guests).
It's a good place to rest awhile before we tackle the city of Lincoln in the next post.

Having finished with the Wakefield area, we head in a northeasterly direction to Wrenthorpe, where find the Malt Shovel. The pub is still ...
